MACHUPICCHU is located at 80 km. at the
northwest of the city of Cuzco, the famous “Lost City of The Incas”, that
stayed hidden for three centuries in spite of the Spanish invasion. It was
discovered in the Peruvian Andes by Hiram Bingham in 1911.The city hadthe
roll essentially Spiritual and Ceremonial,it is divided into two sectors;
Agricultural Terraces and Urban Area in which there are Squares, Temples and
Palaces. The style of the Palaces and of the ceramics that were found, in
addition to the constructions that seem to be carefully planned give
evidence that MACHUPICCHU was built under the supervision of the Central
State of the Inca in Cuzco. The particulidad perhaps most striking is the
famous Sanctuary of the Intihuatana Stone, the function of this is still a
mystery, it is probably linked to the religion and was being used for the
Observation of the stars, not having been discovered by the Spaniards it
retains its beauty intact.
