Day
1 ARRIVAL - CATAMARAN TRIP
During an amazing 38 km journey down the Madre de Dios river in a catamaran, you'll see the picturesque
South Amazonian landscape.
Immediately after arriving to the airport, we will jump into a fully
equipped catamaran with a kitchen, shower, mini Bar, fishing lines,
hammocks and small additional canoes for those who want some private
moments with nature. During
the journey, we will have the chance to swim, fish and walk along the river
bank watching local activities such as agriculture and gold mining. The
quichua people from the native community of Puerto Arturo will show us
how to live in a respectful symbiosis with nature. As
night falls, we will be able to watch the beautiful sunset filled with the
sounds of nocturnal wildlife. It will be possible to see alligator's eyes
along the banks. Night
in Wasaí Maldonado Lodge (L, D)
Day
2 SANDOVAL LAKE
After breakfast on the pier, we will board an outboard boat
to navigate for 30 minutes towards the
beginning of the path which leads to the Sandoval lake. There will be a 5
kilometer (3.1 mile) walk and we will have the opportunity to admire the wild fauna,
especially birds and insects. We will also have the opportunity to see the enormous variety of vegetal
species in this area. This can be done by mountain bike. Once we arrive
to Sandoval lake, we will get into rowing canoes (no engines are
permitted). There, we will watch macaws, parrots, hoatzins, kingfishers
and herons. After lunch on the lake, we will go back to the canoe
and try to locate the giant otter family. This is an excellent
opportunity to fish
piranhas or to take a dip in the lake. The
sunset on the lake is an unforgettable experience. Darkness welcomes
night fauna. The king of the night in the lake is the black alligator.
We will do our best to find one on our way back. We will trek
towards the Madre de Dios river where our boat will be waiting for us to
go back to WASAÍ Maldonado Lodge. There, we will be lodged in our rooms.
After dinner, you may take a dip in the swimming pool which is surrounded by exotic vegetation.
The night is up to you; you may rest of take in the night life in Puerto
Maldonado. (B, L, D)
